5 BEAUTY BENEFITS OF COCONUT OIL

My first experience with coconut oil (as a moisturizer) was on the beaches of Thailand years ago. I was traveling around, taking cooking classes, scuba diving and eating delicious food... but the thing I loved the most? The massages.

I had my first coconut oil massage on the island of Koh Tao for $8, which is essentially how much they are anywhere in Thailand (give or take). Teleportation gods?...

Those coconut oil massages were the most soothing, most amazing skin softening experience of my life. It was silky smooth. My skin and body never felt better. Needless to say, I got a massage every single day.

I've became a very loyal user since then. I cook with it all the time, I use it as my body moisturizer and I massage it into my my face every night before I go to bed.

Coconut oil has been written and talked about in practically every industry moreso in the past year - health + wellness, fashion, entertainment... everyone is obsessed with it and for good reason.

Here are my 5 favorite beauty benefits of coconut oil:

1. Moisturizer

Coconut oil will make your skin so soft and smooth. Use it on your body, hands and feet to keep them moisturized and happy. The antibacterial, antifungal, antimicrobial properties help the skin heal itself while keeping it nice and plump. It also helps protect against skin damage. Coconut oil absorbs quickly and is great for most skin types.

Note - if you have oily skin and you find that it's too oily, use apple cider vinegar diluted in water as a toner first.

2. Hair Mask

Coconut oil will make your hair super silky and shiny. A little bit goes a long way, so be careful not to use too much. Add a spoonful to your hair, leave it in for several hours (or overnight) and wash it out. Voila. This works incredibly well if you have damaged hair. The fats in the coconut oil help stimulate hair growth and also nourishes your hair follicles.

3. Makeup Remover

Nothing gets my eye makeup off as easily as coconut oil. No more panda eyes. Use just a tiny bit, less than pea sized amount. Again, a little goes a long way. It works on waterproof mascara, too! After I rinse it off, I then use it as an eye cream, because of its anti-aging and anti-wrinkle properties

4. Massage Oil

One word: Amazing. And it smells good. Massages are great for your health, as you probably already know. Good for your heart, decreases stress, lowers blood pressure, decreases inflammation, the list goes on...

5. Shaving

Coconut oil won't clog your pores, so it's an great to use when shaving. It'll moisturize your skin before and after.

When buying coconut oil online or at the store, make sure to always buy organic, virgin and unrefined. There's tons of ways to use coconut oil, which makes it extremely affordable.
