the delicious benefits of manuka honey

MANUKA HONEY

Manuka honey, from New Zealand, is one of nature's richest antimicrobial sources, because it contains an extra-concentrated dose of methylglyoxal (MG)—an enzyme unique only to Manuka honey.

It's the only honey that's been approved for medical use and is used and recommended by dermatologists to treat skin conditions.

The anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and moisturizing properties of Manuka Honey not only strengthens your immune and digestive system when eaten, but is amazing for the health of your skin when used topically.

It acts as a natural humectant, which helps to heal and lock in moisture, giving your skin a long-lasting glowy, luminous complexion. It also reduces the visible signs of sun damage—like premature wrinkling and sun spots.

When buying Manuka honey, use this buying guide:

There are two scales by which Manuka honey is rated - both are used to indicate the antibacterial strength:

—UMF rating—which is the industry standard and more widely used. It stands for "Unique Manuka Factor." It's registered by The Active Manuka Honey Association (AMHA),

—MGO rating—which is used and trademarked by Manuka Health New Zealand Ltd.

Here's an easy conversion table:

UMF® 25+ = MGO™ 550+
UMF® 20+ = MGO™ 400+
UMF® 15+ = MGO™ 250+
UMF® 10+ = MGO™ 100+
Active 5+ = MGO™ 30+

The higher the grade, the more potent the Manuka honey. Stick to UMF 15+ when treating common skin issues, cuts, burns, etc.

Manuka honey is more expensive than local, raw honey—both have amazing health benefits.

Stay away from processed honey which is heated and stripped of its pollen and some of its natural disease-fighting properties.

FOR SUPER SOFT SKIN

For smooth, supple, baby-soft skin, apply and use it as a face mask. I leave it on for 20-30 minutes, 2x a week.

FOR SILKY HAIR

For luscious locks, massage a small amount of honey into your scalp then rinse with warm water.

FOR HEALING CUTS AND BURNS

Use Manuka honey to protect and heal wounds instead of using Neosporin. It’ll help speed up the healing process.

FOR A BETTER NIGHT’S SLEEP

Add a tiny spoonful in warm water or tea as a sleeping aid. It helps your body release melatonin which helps you fall asleep.

AS A NATURAL COUGH SUPPRESANT

Get rid of your cough and boost your immune system by adding a bit of Manuka honey to warm tea.
